The Purpose of Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer

Prayer is very effective and powerful. It should be taken seriously because we have a real enemy whose only mission is to kill us, steal our joy and destroy our families. Ephesians 6:12 tells us for we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. In this scripture, God is telling us the reason why we should pray and take it seriously because we are in a spiritual war.

Prayer is a conversation with God and it is a way that we can be close, commune and get to know our heavenly father. Now if there was a guy that you were dating how would you get to know that person? You would do it by talking and spending time with the guy you are trying to get closer with. It is the same with our relationship with God. In order to get closer to him, know him and learn of his ways, we have to start talking to him more and spending quality time with him. We can do this through prayer. Prayer is also where we can take all of our concerns, worries, and desires to the Lord. It would be wise for us all to continuously be in prayer and spend time talking with God. Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that God knows the thoughts and plans of our life! He desires to give us hope and a future in order for us to get the detailed strategy for our lives we must discipline ourselves in the area of prayer.

The purpose of prayer is so that you can be empowered by The Holy Spirit to continue on in the journey of our faith. Whatever your assignment is, or whatever your issues are, we need the power of God to be able to walk in faith and not by our circumstances or situations. When life starts to weigh in on us we can always find peace in prayer for every problem in our lives. Jeremiah 29:7
God has shown us in Ephesians 6:12 who we are in a war against (powers, principalities, and rulers in dark wicked places) but our heavenly father also tells us in Colossians 2:9-11 For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.  And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power. Knowing this we should be encouraged to go to the head ruler of all. God is in charge of all and everything, Jesus Christ sacrificed his life so that we all can have this beautiful relationship with the Father through prayer. God is the one in control and he is the one we need to talk to every day for instructions, peace, and power in our life. I believe this is the very purpose of prayer.
