Worship is a powerful spiritual act that is important to God. Worship has a mystery to it that opens realms in the Spirit that can only be accessed by having a true, pure, awe and adoration of God. I have known worship to be a higher form of praise, it is the place in the Spirit where I am not aware of nothing of myself but my heart is consumed with the awesome power of an all-knowing and all loving God. I believe this is the worship Jesus was talking about to the woman at the well. (John 4:21-24)
As a born again believer because of the redemptive work that Jesus did at the cross we can now worship the Father in Spirit and in truth, anywhere at anytime! In the book of John 14:6 Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but by me. We must believe in the life, death, resurrection, ascension and seating of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. This is the only way we are now allowed to come boldly to God’s throne of grace and worship Him.
In the bible the word worship was first mentioned in Genesis 22:5. Abraham was tested by God to give his best and most precious sacrifice, his son Issac. It was by faith that Abraham chose to obey God’s command. This act of extreme obedience signals to me that Abraham had total faith and trust in an all-knowing and all loving powerful God. True worship is an act of our faith and obedience to surrender and obey the heart of God. Worship demands that we die to self and surrender our will, ego, expectation, and our desires to His will and His way.
